Half of an Elephant by Gusti is an award winning book published by Kane Miller. This 40 page book is perfect for children between the ages of 5 years old and 9 years old that has earned the Parenting Magazine Best Books of the Year. This is an interesting story for children to read. The illustrations are unique.

Story of Half of an Elephant

One night, all of a sudden, the world split in two. Faced with this unexpected event - and with half of his considerable body missing - an elephant began a journey to find his missing half. Since there was only half of him, he was referred to as 'half of an elephant'. Along the way, he discovered the many different ways there are of rebuilding and reinventing oneself. He also met other animals that also lost their halves. Soon the half elephant realized that every animal had the same problem as him. The front half of the elephant tried to join with other animals but it did not really work. Eventually, the front half of the elephant gave up and decided that it was not so bad being by himself.

Meanwhile, the rear half of the elephant was also having a problem. It was hard for him to join with the front half of other animals. He then arrived at the same conclusion.

Eventually, the world rejoins and the halves of the elephant find each other but they are fine being on their own now.

At once quietly poetic and (not-so-quietly) humorous, Half of an Elephant is an adventure of a lifetime, not just for our hero, but for every reader who has ever struggled to find himself.
