Going to the Dentist
September 8th, 2009Going to the Dentist is a great book in he Usborne First Experiences series of books that include Going to School and Moving House. The book is by Anne Civardi and Stephen Cartwright. The book measures 8 1/4 x 8 1/4 inches, has 16 pages and is excellent for children ages 3 years and up but even younger children enjoy this book too. This book also come in a sticker book format.
Why this book, Going to the Dentist, is so great...
A trip to the dentist is much easier if you know what to expect! With sensitive and humorous illustrations, this book shows small children what happens at the dentist - from the chair that goes up and down to all the dentist's equipment. There is also information on how to look after your teeth, and a little yellow duck to find on each double page. ("... clearly explained, in an informative way, with lots of jolly illustrations." What a Great Book!
This book explains to children what to expect so they will not be scared next time they go to the dentist! Kids (and sometimes adults too) are often scared when going to the dentist. Why? Because they do not know what to expect and when they can get hurt if something is wrong with their teeth. They are afraid of what they dentist might do to them and their teeth! Sometimes, the dentist's office also smells funny and the dentist has all sorts of sharp equipment that look like they might hurt.
The book explains about waiting in the waiting room to see the dentist. Then the dental assistant will see the children first before the dentist does. Mom can usually come in and watch the children. The book explains what the normal routine is when a dentist examines a child's teeth. The illustrations are great. If the dentist finds a hole in one of the teeth then he or she will have to fill it. The book explains the process of filling a teeth.
Finally, the book explains about looking after your teeth and what to eat for healthy teeth. The children then learned how to brush their teeth properly and they made an appointment for next visit, 6 months later.
